Change, the moderate, and extremism

He grew up knowing nothing but hurt.
Everyone he had ever trusted used him.
Abused him.

Today he trusts no one.
They are all out to get him.
The past predicts his future.
Controls his present.

It’s a typical condition.
He is many.
He is the extremist.
On either end of the spectrum.
Righteous in his belief in what is right.
What is wrong

He believes that change for the better is no longer a possibility.
Good does not exist.
Hope is a waste of time.
No friend to his lingua franca.

And when they speak of change, with their candy eyes.
He laughs.
When they suggest giving hope a chance.
He laughs.
When they suggest an open mind.
He claims he has one.
And they cry.

He mocks the other side.
But an extremist is an extremist.
Right or left – neither listens.
Because negativity is a magnet.
Breeds negativity.
Creates circles of friends who flourish.
On mob mentality.
He is right, because his friends are right.

He cannot.
He will not.
See.
What he believes does not exist.
A moderate perspective.
Where change and possibility thrive.

It’s a shame that it is within our human nature to choose sides. For when we choose, we are in effect saying that the other side has nothing to offer, will have nothing to offer. Democracy is no place for the moderate among us. Maybe in the next evolution.
